PRP is an acronym for platelet-rich plasma, which is a substance taken from your own blood and then further enriched with natural healing agents. PRP has proved the ability to repair a wide range of human tissues, including the skin. Platelets are blood cells that stimulate cell reproduction. Plasma is the liquid portion of your blood. Platelet-rich plasma is blood that is enriched to include an increased number of healing-promoting platelets.
The PRP Facelift combines the benefits of platelet-rich plasma with hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. Those injectable dermal fillers add attractive volume and contour to your face. For our PRP Facelift Charleston patients are injected with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers (If desired) to create a beautiful shape. The patient’s blood is drawn and processed in a way that allows the provider to isolate the PRP or platelet-rich plasma. The platelets are activated to release potent growth factors that would normally be used to heal injured tissue.
These growth factors are injected into the face which activates multi-potent stem cells to grow new tissue including new collagen, fatty tissue (for smoothness), and new blood vessels (for a healthy glow). PRP alone will improve lost volume in the face and improve skin color, texture and firmness and should markedly reduce the need for other maintenance procedures such as cosmetic filler injections. The benefits of PRP will be seen over a period of 2-3 months and last for 1-2 years or longer, depending on the individual. The benefit of adding dermal fillers to the procedure is two-fold. You’ll need to temporarily stop using any medications or supplements that can promote bleeding. Stay out of the sun, and avoid waxing, bleaching or tweezing prior to your procedure.
Downtime following your PRP Facelift is minimal. In fact, most patients resume their normal activities immediately. Redness and swelling immediately following the procedure are expected and will be largely resolved by the following morning. There may be minimal residual swelling the following day, typically not noticeable to others. Bruising may occur with any injection and will usually resolve within one to two weeks.
