Book NowPRP hair restoration treatments use your own blood cells to accelerate healing in a specific area. PRP consists of two elements:
Platelet-rich plasma is simply blood that contains an increased and enhanced number of platelets. If the hair follicles or hair roots are healthy, the growth of the hair is healthy. Hair follicles survive on the nutrition they get from blood supply. When the scalp is injected with PRP, growth factors are released that stimulate stem cells and other cells in the microenvironment of the hair follicle, resulting in hair follicle growth, increased circulation to the hair follicles, and decreased inflammation. These growth factors also stimulate inactive hair follicles into an active growth phase.
Because PRP treatments use your own tissues, injections are remarkably safe. There is no risk of allergic reaction. This nonsurgical procedure requires no downtime and produces natural-looking results. Your PRP hair loss treatment is designed to stimulate hair regrowth and slow down future hair loss.
Research indicates that PRP hair replacement works best to treat a condition known as androgenic alopecia, which is hormone-related hair loss that can affect both men and women. Hair loss resulting from stress or autoimmune disorders may not respond to PRP therapy.
When it comes to PRP hair restoration Mt Pleasant & Charleston candidates are patients who have slight to moderate hair loss, and who want to take charge and regain confidence in their appearance.
The patient’s blood is drawn and spun down using a specialized piece of equipment called a centrifuge to separate the red and white blood cells from the portion of the blood rich in platelets. This plasma, which is now concentrated 5-7 times the platelets in whole blood, is activated by injecting it into the highly vascular scalp. This activation of the platelets causes the release of 8 different growth factors which help regenerate tissue and bring new blood flow to the area. Prior to the injection, a topical numbing cream is applied to the scalp making the procedure virtually painless.
This is the most important decision you will make in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of your PRP treatment. Insist on a highly trained and experienced provider for your Mt Pleasant PRP Hair Restoration therapy, like our team at Ageless Medical Spa and Hair Restoration.
There is little to no downtime following the PRP. Hair may be washed following the procedure, but it is best to avoid hair products, coloring, and excessive styling for 1-2 days following. Our patients often like to bring a hat to wear after their procedure, especially if planning to go somewhere before heading home. Results will typically be seen within 2-3 months of treatment. Our protocol consists of a series of 2 PRP treatments 5-6 weeks apart followed by repeat treatments every 6-12 months, depending on the individual and reason for hair loss.
Typically, it will take up to six months for your results to be maximized and fully apparent. In certain situations, results could be permanent, requiring no further treatment. But you may require or desire subsequent injections at regular intervals as recommended by your provider. As with all PRP injection treatments, results will vary based on the individual. Often patients, particularly men, will benefit from a multimodal approach which may include light therapy, minoxidil, DHT blockers, or hair follicle transplant.

PRP treatments cannot regrow hair from nothing. There have to be at least dormant hair follicles to treat. For extreme alopecia, scalp areas may need to be “seeded” with transplanted hair follicles.
After you undergo your provider’s prescribed number of treatments and an annual “touch-up,” patients report a success rate and satisfaction rate of up to 90 percent.
Because PRP injections are made up of your own cells, the procedure is an exceptionally safe one. But all procedures carry some risks, in this case including:
Your provider may recommend against PRP treatment if you:
You’ll start to see some new hairs, along with changes in hair texture and the thickness of your hair shafts, in about two weeks. But it will take up to six months to realize your final results and benefits.
Typically, between 18 months and two years.
Your scalp will be numb for about an hour after your treatment. And your scalp will be sore for a few days when pressed or massaged. That’s about it!
Since hair restoration is considered a cosmetic procedure rather than a medical one, your insurance will almost certainly not pay for your PRP treatment. But your provider will be happy to help you with insurance eligibility inquiries.
One session can cost between $500 and $2,000. And it may take three treatments to achieve the results you want. Pricing depends on a number of factors, including your geographic location, the type of equipment used in your procedure, and the addition of nutritive components to your injections. Discuss costs with your provider before your treatment.
